The Latest from the Garden
Hello, all herb lovers!
Autumn approaches, and the days and nights will be equal when I run my second-to-last herb course of the year on September 20th & 21st. There is one more, on November 15th & 16th.
It's been a dry growing time this year in the garden, with the heat and more recently the much-needed rain, and the new flower/herb beds have done very well, thanks in part to the thick mulch of woodchip over cardboard that was laid over the grass when I (and the worms) made them. The autumn berries and fruits are looking luscious, and it's a lovely time to be doing a herb course.
On the Autumn Equinox, I am teaching a two-day 'Introduction to herbal medicine'. There will be one more in November. It runs 10-4 both days. So if you've always wanted to come on a course with me, this is your chance! Please message me if you're interested.
I made a wildlife pond earlier in the year, with the aid of Phil and his wonderful digger skills (and digger!), so if anyone is interested in seeing the creation of a wildlife pond (one of the most valuable things you can do in your garden to promote biodiversity), this is another reason to come. I have relocated some meadowsweet, valerian, irises, inula and other water-loving natives (like me!) around it.
After 40 years of teaching, I need to take some time out for myself, to make some space for my own creativity - as some of you know, I'm also an artist, and make woodblock prints - I want to direct more time and energy to this work.
If you're interested, you can see my woodblock prints here, and at Sorrel & Sage www.sorrelandsage.co.uk at Trumpet Corner, a new cafe and gallery. I will be continuing to explore the use of natural pigments in my printmaking, some of which I have growing in my garden.
I will be offering another opportunity to come and learn about herbs with me, although it may be in a different form.
I will also be offering teas, creams, and a range of herb plants for sale as usual at the weekend. You are also welcome to ask about buying these by post or collection. I will be continuing to sell herb plants, usually barerooted. I will be updating my website in the near future with my future plans.
I am planning an open day to buy herb plants on Sunday, 5th October - please let me know if you'd like to come by.
I will also be doing a craft fair at Hellens Manor, Much Marcle, on Sunday 14th December, where there will be lots of wonderful local crafts on offer, including my creams, herbal teas (tea of happiness), woodblock cards and small prints.
